The hearing performance of the ear is tested with a special measuring instrument called an ‘audiometer’. This is usually done in a sound-proof booth. Each ear is tested separately, and both perception of sound and speech is tested. The clinician will explain your hearing result at the end of the test.

  • Make an appointment for your hearing test
  • Our specialist Clinicians will establish any prior history concerning your ears and hearing needs, as well as clarify your medical details.
  • Your hearing is fully assessed to determine how good your hearing is and how well you hear and understand speech.
  • Your Clinician will explain your hearing result at the end of the test as well as explain your need for hearing aids or any other assistive listening devices.

Step 2

Fitting the hearing instrument

Your first experience with your new listening device

  • This appointment typically occurs two to three weeks after your hearing assessment. At this appointment the hearing aids will be fitted and adjusted to your hearing profile and communication needs.
  • The Clinician will teach you how to insert, use and maintain the aids, and most importantly how to adjust to your new hearing in the first few weeks.
  • Using our computer interface we make sure your hearing aids are meeting your required prescription and we will ensure you are happy with the comfort and sound of the first setting in the centre.
  • It is recommended a family member or friend attends this appointment with you so they can provide support over the coming weeks and understand how your new hearing instrument works.
  • We now send you off to try them out in your world, but we are only a phone call away should you need us. It is useful to write down any concerns or questions you may have in preparation for your next appointment.

Step 3

Evaluation and adjustment

Fine-tuning your aids and addressing concerns

  • This appointment typically occurs one to two weeks after the fitting appointment. At this appointment the Clinician will discuss the first few weeks of listening and wearing of the hearing aid with you and determine if any adjustments need to be made. In most instances some fine tuning will be required as your auditory system adjusts to all the new sounds.
  • Adjustments are made through the computer programming interface and any key concerns or issues you may have are addressed.
  • By now you will have re-entered the hearing world and will be enjoying listening to the diversity of sounds around you. Remember that your auditory system will continue to adjust over the coming months and further adjustment may be required in time.

Step 4

Ongoing support

  • Your Rehabilitation Program includes free follow up visits for the first 12 months. Connect Hearing encourages you to book an appointment to address any problems you are experiencing.
  • If however, you are happy with your hearing aids, and you have no need for further adjustment appointments, our Customer Care Team will contact you within 1 year for your annual re-test and re-adjustment of your hearing instrument if required.
