Hearing loss apps for your phone

An article recently published in the Wall Street Journal revealed an amazing new application is in development for people with a hearing loss. A group of hearing health professionals (audiologists, ENT’s and sound engineers) are creating an application that can be used on mobile phones to help people hear better. An estimated 38% of the world's population have some kind of hearing loss, but only a small percentage actually seeks professional help, so this will be welcome news.

The new app is designed so that people will be able to test their hearing in a quiet room and then the mobile phone will automatically calibrate the level of sound output based on the nature of the hearing loss. Most people with hearing loss currently turn up the sound levels, which can actually end up further damaging the hearing.

It will be available first for smart phones, and will be downloadable or available to purchase as firmware that can be installed in the phone. This app will be suitable for people with a relatively mild hearing loss.
