Hearing aids improve quality of life

A recent study by Swiss analysts Anovum, has found that the use of hearing aids has an overall positive effect on people’s lives.  The study interviewed 15,000 people and asked them to discuss their hearing loss and use of hearing aids.

One of the most significant improvements was found to be in relationships, particularly in communication with people such as spouses, children and close friends. Better communication was found to lead to an overall greater satisfaction with life. People reported that they were more able to participate in social situations leading to a dramatic improvement in how they rate their social life. They even said that their life was improved by being able to enjoy television with others!

Similarly, loved ones also reported an improvement socially when hearing aids were being used as they found interaction became easier and they were able to participate in more activities together.

There were still some challenges faced by the participants in the study. They still found noisy environments somewhat more difficult to understand in as well as talking on the phone. The researchers summarised that, although there still appears to be difficulty in acknowledging hearing loss and taking the step to do something about it, the end result and overall improvement in life, makes it worthwhile.
