There are many know causes of hearing loss. The most common reasons are things such as exposure to extremely loud noise, age, congenital defects, toxicity of some drugs and some ear infections. Many diagnostic methods are available to help detect hearing loss causes and treatment, but the best option is to have a hearing test with an audiologist.

Invisible hearing aids were invented because hearing aids should be heard and not seen. Invisible hearing aids are located inside the ear canal and are a great new alternative to conspicuous hearing aids that dominated the market just a few years ago. There are a variety of models on the market at different prices but all work on the same principles. They are very small, the product on ever greater improvement and efficiencies in hearing technology, and are located deep inside the ear canal.

Customisation is critical, and this is reflected in the price also. This involves an evaluation and fitting by a hearing aid specialist who will ensure the device is comfortable, and suited to the particular hearing requirements of the wearer. A hearing test and evaluation will establish the extent of your hearing problem and the potential solutions. After initial fitting the audiologist will test and adjust the device over an extended period to gradually refine its hearing characteristics to match as closely as possible the wearer’s requirements. The cost of the hearing aid will often include this initial fitting and subsequent follow-up in the cost of the hearing aid.

The best way to prevent tinnitus is to avoid loud noises, so protect your ears from loud noise. Particularly important if your occupation exposes you to a lot of loud noise, or you frequently go to concerts and nightclubs. If you are concerned about losing sound quality, there are special earplugs available that filter out unwanted noise while maintaining the quality of the sound. Also, limit exposure to loud environments to an hour or so each time. Noise is cumulative so if you take a break it helps your hearing to recover.
