“I was very worried about getting a hearing aid, although I knew I had to do something because I was at the point where I couldn't deny my hearing had got quite bad. The reason I was a bit reluctant was that I had a friend with a hearing aid who had terrible trouble with interference from wind and loud noises.
I love walking in the country, and discovering new out-of-the-way places to eat, so I just didn’t want to have the same sort of problems. The wind can blow a gale out in the country, especially up high, and sometimes there's a lot of chatter going on in restaurants.

Free hearing services for pensioners
Eligible Pensioners and DVA beneficiaries are entitled to free hearing services from accredited providers through the Office of Hearing Services which is a Government run program.
Under the Government scheme you may be entitled to:
- Free comprehensive hearing tests
- Personalised ongoing support from a qualified clinician
- Subsidised hearing aids, if you need them.
- All hearing aid batteries and maintenance covered for a small yearly fee.
